The Great Event called KARAOKE!

Hey Music lovers, how are you!!! I know it has been less than 24 hours but I miss you already! I have been struggling this year with my voice, getting over a cold and all but I feel good and what does that mean? IT MEANS I AM GOING TO KARAOKE TONIGHT FULL BLAST!!! That is right music lovers I am going to Karaoke to sing till I drop! I love Karaoke for a few reasons;

The Entertainment Value

Every day is like American Idol Tryouts “Live” and I often find myself sharing sentiments with Simon Cowell, imploring upon the gods of the treble clef to save me! Most nights they do answer, usually from the most unsuspecting source. There are some people that I have been blessed to meet that parted the heavens with their voices and even on occasion made inebriated hearts sober.

Great Practice

If you are someone that does have a voice, female or male vocalist but wears stage fright like underwear, karaoke could help. I am not talking about singing in a room alone. Go to a open bar that has karaoke, if you can avoid drinking alcohol (yeah, that is really going to happen), pick a song that you know most of the words you know like “Old McDonald” or “Mary Had a Little Lamb”. Ok that was a bit overboard so just pick a song you sing in the car when you get a huge bonus, or your favorite break-up song (fellas, you know you we have those too), whatever motivates you. Pick the song, hold that microphone tight, close your eyes and let your heart soar. You can dance too!!

Great Atmosphere

Most karaoke bars have a much laid back family atmosphere (well, take out the alcohol). You are not in a suit or a uniform, there is a “…we will take you as you are…” attitude. Everyone is welcome, no one is a pro. Your only failure is not standing in front of everyone holding a mic, voice coming out or not. No one is judging you so, get up there and sing your heart out!!!

Usually Local

There is a local bar that has a night of karaoke less than 15mins of your home and if not I suggest you move right now. Ok, just kidding on the moving tip but if you do not know how to find one close to you, just ask!!!

Karaoke is great, it’s fun! Take your family, go with your friends. It’s the greatest thing since holding a fist to your face wondering what it’s like to be a Rockstar. It’s like an inexpensive PS3/Xbox360 Rockstar system that you are actually in front of people and all you have to do is read the lyrics! I will let you know how it goes!!!

Believe it or not I found a place in Riverside, CA that has the best sound system/acoustics I have ever sang with!

So I read ur blog lastnite & suddenly felt an urge 2 go Karaokeing… I quickly googled spots in my neighborhood, dragged my “not so willing” friends, & set off 2 d joint all xcited, only 2 get there & find d most boring crowd ever.. The t.v screen was so small & high up d wall 4 my shortsightedness 2 tolerate. How disappointing!! However, I’m still in karaoke mode, so I need suggestions 4 cool K spots in LA.. Any ideas?

Nkiru, welcome to Voice of Kelechi Ukoha! I am really sorry your “bold venture to the wild” with your friends did not turn out so grand. Now what I am going to do for you is to comb through the Southern California area and list them for you. There are places that might not be too close to you but I am pretty sure you will have a good time. For those that live in Los Angeles, CA or in the immediate vicinity of L.A. this is going to take me a bit. Meanwhile, you can take a look at Karaoke Bars Exposed and see if any of these bars are close to you. Now, for those who are in a different State or even country. Give me you Zip code (US Residents) and or city and country and I am pretty sure I can find something. Or it might be time for you to bring the gift of music to your neighborhood and have Voice of Kelechi Ukoha cover it. Try it out with your friends and let me know!

i will tell u this right now. i have more respect for u because i can even have the guts to do karaoke. i think i will have to be drunk enough and do not have a care in the world to do something like that. And most importantly iam a terrible singer. i will sound like “eddie murphy” on his good day, but u never know its the new year and anything can happen, so in that case i will keep ur advice in mind and maybe i will pratice frist before i make a fool out of myself.

I will like to first welcome you to Voice of Kelechi Ukoha! Thank you for the compliments you are too kind! I promise you being “drunk” will not help you sing (actually, it will take whatever ability you have away from you). Practice is definitely a good start. I suggest you go with friends the first time you go ;-)

I don’t know why people are afraid of Karaoke – seriously! I’m sure I have a bad voice (bad, not terrible) but the moment I get on that stage with the lyrics right in front of me and the music booming out of the speakers, all I do is – like Eminem said – just lose myself in the music, the moment, and own it! Who cares how terrible my voice sounds? We’re not auditioning for American Idol, are we? Lol.

Nice piece!

Just wanted to say I had a blast at your Karaoke night last weekend. The atmosphere was real cool, and the “DJ” made it fun to… not to mention your voice was amazing! Everyone had a lot of fun, I hope everyone will be able to enjoy the pictures soon ;-)
