Karaoke Night in Chino Hills

by Kelechi Ukoha on January 7, 2009 · 3 comments

in Karaoke

Hello Music Lovers! Sorry this is coming in late, but as you know bills have to be paid.

Karaoke was very interesting! Remember How I said that Karaoke could be like an American Idol Tryout “Live”. Last night a group of three gentlemen, if I should call them that as I think I should sang “Time after Time”. I thought the Grim Reaper had appeared. Actually he did appear but the voices were so dreadful he ran away!

Now right after that happened I gave up the hope of the night being a good night and just then someone stepped on stage and sang At Last by Etta James. Sad thing was I thought that it was the CD playing until she laughed. Another gentleman went up and sang a song by Ne-Yo and that went great! As I walked up and requested my “new song”, Gravity by John Mayer, it was not available. I cried and went home. Ok, I did not go home but I cried a little bit. I wound up singing A Change Gonna Come by Sam Cooke (My older brother, ok, ok but I really love his music. Tell you why later), Hotel California by The Eagles, later on I sang Faithfully by Journey. At this point I think I had no sense of Time and space almost because I was having so much fun.

I am not sure what they are called in your neck of the woods but around the Inland Empire, CA the DJ for Karaoke is called a “KJ” and I think “DL” is one of the best. He is currently working on being the feature KJ for Voice of Kelechi Ukoha.

India-ArieHello Music Lovers! I am actually proud to bring this wonderful person to you. Soulful, sensual, sensitive, articulate, these are just a few words that come to mind when her voice fills any void with warmth. I am talking about none other than Singer/Songwriter India Arie.

Now this beautiful lady has music in her genes, talking about following in the footsteps of your predecessors, her mother, Joyce, was a Motown singer that opened for Stevie Wonder and Al Green, talk about being born with talent! She is trained in different instruments but has an undying love for the guitar like me! I know, selfish plug. [click to continue…]

Hey music lovers! I read some articles online on how I can (or anyone in this case) improve my singing. I found some of the things mentioned helpful but then it hit me, most articles I read only spoke about the things you “should” do and no one really talked about what “not” to do to sing better. So, for my fellow male vocalists and female vocalists, members of the choir, and yes even my beloved Karaoke singers, here is “Kelechi’s Litany of Never Do” when it comes to singing. As you may guess, I found out most of these the “hard way”. [click to continue…]
