Hello Music Lovers! I am actually proud to bring this wonderful person to you. Soulful, sensual, sensitive, articulate, these are just a few words that come to mind when her voice fills any void with warmth. I am talking about none other than Singer/Songwriter India Arie.
Now this beautiful lady has music in her genes, talking about following in the footsteps of your predecessors, her mother, Joyce, was a Motown singer that opened for Stevie Wonder and Al Green, talk about being born with talent! She is trained in different instruments but has an undying love for the guitar like me! I know, selfish plug.
Her debut album, Acoustic Soul was released in 2001, since then she has released two other albums with a fourth, Testimony Vol2: Love & Politics that is scheduled to be released sometime in February 2009. She has been nominated for a whopping 16 Grammys of which she took 2 home. She did that with 3 albums! Can somebody say Powerhouse? Yes indeed! I think she deserves way more than the 2 she took home but, what can I say?
Yes, she falls under my “True Musician” category and I suggest my female vocalists out there and any Singer Songwriter learn from India Arie, I promise you will not regret it.

India Arie is just as advertised: grooving soul music with an acoustic bent. I did not know that she India Arie herself plays guitar, supplemented by strings (instead of synthesizers) and drums (instead of drum machines).
In my humble opinion, this is the type of music that feeds the spirit and provides something to share with everyone. Young girls should be encouraged to listen to the message in “Video” and build their self love.

Now this is a TRULY talented artiste. I love India.Arie! I’m a huge fan of hers and I have all three CDs she’s released thus far. Her debut CD “Acoustic Soul” is a classic and I’d suggest that every one that truly love music should own it. I’m not as excited about her other two CDs but “Acoustic Soul”? Gosh, how do you top that? She was nominated for 7 Grammys with that CD but she didn’t win any and I was so raging mad that I didn’t watch the Grammys for over 3 years as a result even though they would “compensate” her with 2 Grammys on a less-deserving sophomore CD “Voyage To India” the very next year. Great artiste!
