Hello Music lovers! If I am going to talk about Singers, Songwriters and Musicians, this guy is definitely not escaping the Voice of Kelechi Ukoha. I am talking about John Legend, born John Stephens, the man who has seduced the earth with his “smooth as silk” vocals ever since he was born as far as I am concerned!
John Legend has been playing the piano since he was four (wonder how his fingers got around the keys at that age? Brother got some looong fingers!), he performed in the church choir, in a coed jazz group, in different bars and venues from New York to DC. I mean it is obvious that beside the fact that he is naturally talented, he “worked his craft” and worked it to perfection.
He has currently released 3 albums, won Grammys and is at the top of his game. His voice has blessed the projects of other artists like Common, Kanye West, Slum Village and Fort Minor (Mike Shinoda) just to mention a few.His single Green Light from his latest album Evolver is knocking hits off of the charts as it is rising fast to the top (in 6 different categories Green Light is ranked lowest at #51 in Pop 100 and the highest currently at #4 in Hot Dance Club Play).
John Legend is what I call a “True Musician”; he plays an instrument, sings (beautifully) and is a great songwriter. I hope to open for him or even do a project with him soon, maybe at one of his charity events, you never know!
Information of rankings are current as of Jan. 04, 2009 and can be verified at www.billboard.com.

Great choice of JL as the first artist in your showcase, I’ve been a fan of his since his singing career’s inception. On your blog will you be playing the music of the “Artist” in the showcase to coincide with the commentary?

Interesting… I never knew that about his name. And yes, it’s amazing that he can claim “4 yrs old” as his starting age. Even if it was “Do Re Mi…” it’s still playing
Both he and Alicia Keys help move me back to my musical roots. It’s encouraging seeing people who are just like me playing stuff many piano teachers would cringe at–yes, I believe there’s such a thing as “musical lines” drawn in the piano world. They are greatly gifted and amazingly talented at their craft. They totally went outside the box and made their music mainstream… and as a result have reached overwhelming success for it. Thanks for sharing.

I am a big fan John Legend. I do not know too much about him, but his music is captivating. My favorite song is “Ordinary People”.

It is always good to see that our True Musicians are supported. Green Light is definitely a beauty and I will use this opportunity to advise those who have not heard his CD to “legally” obtain a copy and you will be in for a treat! Enjoy!
